    Laka Morton (April 7, 1946 – March 20, 2014) was a Hawaiian artist, historian, and cultural activist renowned for his vivid portrayals of Hawaiian life and heritage. Born in Honolulu and later residing in Volcano, Hawaii, Morton captured the essence of Hawaiian culture through his art, creating large-scale images that brought everyday Hawaiian people to life on canvas. His work was featured in numerous exhibitions and earned him several awards. Additionally, Morton served as the in-house artist and museum director for the Native Hawaiian Trading and Cultural Center for a decade, contributing significantly to the preservation and promotion of Hawaiian traditions.
